My Review: e.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen

Hey everyone! I have a tendency to unevenly draw on my eyeliner or go too fast in applying mascara, leaving makeup marks, smudges, and smears along my eyelids or underneath the eye. Using one makeup remover wipe per mistake is costly and can lead to a rash, as they tend to be harsh in both ingredients and in the required rubbing motion. To save both money and my skin from irritation, I purchased the e.l.f Makeup Remover Pen for $3 on eyeslipsface.com with hopes to revolutionize my makeup removing routine.

What is It? This pen contains a felt tip infused with a cleanser that is supposed to remove makeup mishaps effortlessly and on the go. Contains several soothing and conditioning ingredients, including Cucumber, Vitamin E,and Chamomile.

Things to Rave About:

1) Removes Makeup Stains: Yes, with continuous rubbing and pressure, makeup will be turned into a liquid spot that can easily be wiped away. The pen does not entirely sweep away the makeup, but rather softens it, so clean up with a wipe or finger afterward is much easier.

2) Calming Ingredients: Chamomile, Vitamin E, and Cucumber are all found in the list of ingredients. All 3 are notorious for their moisturizing and soothing properties, thus giving an extra benefit to the central purpose of removing eye makeup. Who knows, a drop of Vitamin E and Cucumber once a day may prevent or alleviate eye wrinkles and under eye circles/bags!

Things to Rant About:

1) Stains Easily and Transfers: The very first time you remove a spill of makeup, the felt tip gets dyed by the makeup and turns from white to that shade. You obviously can't wash the pen with soap as it would strip away the cleansing formula and moisturizing properties, thus you are left with a stained pen.  But that's not all... Your stained tip will share some of its new color with the next smear or smudge you try to erase. For example, you erase lip stick and the tip turns pink. Then you erase eyeliner, picking up the black while depositing the pink. It turns into a never ending cycle of makeup mishaps!

2) Rubbing Motion Irritates: In order to remove makeup mistakes, you must rub aggressively back in forth. Not the best idea for sensitive areas such as the eyelid.  In order to entirely remove the makeup, you must clear the left over liquid with a wipe = more irritation.

I put this pen to the test on removing eyeliner, mascara, and eye shadow. I rubbed the e.l.f Makeup Remover Pen back and forth for 15 strokes on each swatch.

  2. I was excited for a second when I saw you review on this. I, too, have a tendency to overdo my eyeliner and always need a minor clean-up. Guess I will have to go back to the cotton pad/q-tip dabbed with eye makeup remover.

  8. Love your blog - love getting the true scoop!
I've tried pens just like this (Givenchy to name one) and they all have that staining-the-applicator- after-the first-use problem. When I am feeling lazy, or need some precision I like to use Bare Escentuals On The Spot eye make up remover They are basically Q tips filled with makeup reomover and they are (thankfully) disposable after each use. http://tinyurl.com/cfmuys5

  9. I use an angled eyeliner brush and some oil free liquid makeup remover to remove mistakes. For example, it works great when I wing my liquid liner, created sharp defined lines! :D

  10. Man I have been reading a few of your reviews now I'm glad you found me! I'm enjoying your reviews and take on things.

I recently did a fairly large haul from elf and thought about getting this but in the end I prefer a q tip and makeup remover lol I tend to get mascara all over my eye lids!
