My Review: Revlon Colorstay...With a PUMP!!!

Hey everyone! I will be the first to admit that somedays, I need a heavy, concealing foundation. Whether it be due to a breakout, peeling/dry skin, or a formal event, my go to foundation for concealing is the Revlon Colorstay. It literally is a concealer, just a concealer in a big bottle rather than tiny packaging! I've tested it out in all extremes; I have coached swim team with Revlon Colorstay on my face, staying directly under the sun in 100 degree weather, swam at the pool with the foundation and continously got dunked under the water , and even wore it to bed. With no suprise, looking in the mirror after these events I saw a flawless face with just a hint of sheering out, yet no nasty and noticeable streaks. The only downfall to this foundation? No pump! ( NO PUMP= spilling, countertop stains, and a ton of product wasted). So I decided that I'm going to change that no pump issue and love Revlon Colorstay even more!

 What is It? This foundation is one of the most heavy duty, concealing foundations on the market. It dries to a matte finish covering all imperfections. It is almost like applying a blemish free, skin colored mask over your own natural skin. It comes in two formulas; for dry to normal skin and for combination to oily skin. Both regardless dry to a matte finish and show little difference, while the oily formula may be a tad thicker.

Things to Rave About:

1) Incredibly Concealing: Applying this foundation is almost like painting on a heavy duty paint to your real skin. It covers everything: every color, every blemish, and every form of skin imperfection. Blue or purple under eye circles are erased, redness either from peeling skin or inflamed pimples is completely concealed, and uneven skin tone is now a solid, flawless base. How does the foundation cover so well? It is extremely thick, meaning that it creates a barrier/wall between your real skin and air particles. Even pimples that rise above the normal skin layer will be covered because the foundation goes over the blemish and coats it with a barrier so the eyes can't spot the zit.

Result: I used the lightest shade, Ivory, to pick up any contrast with the black eyeliner. I took a pea size amount of foundation and blended it over the black dot.

2) Long Lasting: Not only will the formula stay put throughout normal conditions for around 16 hours and still look like you just applied it, it will endure extreme climates for about 10 hours and still cover, yet be just a bit lighter in texture and consistency. Revlon Colorstay lasted me a 2 hour swim practice with my face constantly beneath the water, endured a day at the pool ( I was under the sun so it was not only exposed to splashing, but 100 degree heat as well). Finally, it survived an entire night as I slept and rubbed my face againt the pillows. ( I know, I know, NEVER wear your makeup to bed. I was sick and thus a little lazy to clean it off.)

Things to Rant About:

1) Mask Like: The heavy consistency does make the foundation concealing and hard to wear off, but it also creates a mask like, fake appearance. Since it is so thick, undertones and pinker or tan areas get erased, leaving your skin with a uniform color that looks artificial and almost sickly. My advice: sheer the foundation slightly by wetting the application sponge or brush and, after the foundation is applied, add a bronzer or blush to bring shades of color back to the skin.

2) No Pump: I've tried nearly every method available to cleanly transfer the foundation from bottle to face. I've attempted dipping a q tip in the bottle, pouring the liquid  onto my hand, and dipping a concealer brush into the product. They work, but not without drawbacks. Product is spilled and wasted immensely, and my countertop is an orange, oxidized mess. I saw a travel size pump bottle in the cosmetics aisle of the Dollar Tree, purchased it, and poured 2 bottles of Revlon Colorstay into the 2.5 ounce bottle. And, to my surprise and happiness, it properly squarted out a pea size amount of the foundation, entirely mess free! :)
